Nokia Maps To Become Default Map Service on Windows Phone 8?

First Google announced 3D maps, then Apple revealed the same a week later. It just wouldn’t be a party unless Windows Phone released some news concerning 3D maps a week from now. Wait…what’s that you say…it’s being reported that Nokia Maps will replace Bing Maps on Windows Phone 8 for all Windows Phone devices? Nokia Maps will also feature 3D navigation and hardware acceleration? This sounds too good to be true, but we will know if these reported rumors are true at Microsoft’s Windows Phone Summit on June 20th. According to several news sources, the focus of this event will be Windows Phone 8!

Nokia Maps is already quite impressive on Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) so any changes to improve it are welcome at anytime. I’m hoping to see a full integration of Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia’s City Lens augmented reality app into one core Map app…on top of whatever features Nokia & Microsoft plan on including.
