Windows Phone 8 Features?!

As Windows Phone Summit draws nearer, it seems that more news is being [intentionally] leaked concerning the features we can expect to see in Windows Phone 8 (codenamed Apollo). According to WPCentral, based on what they have seen of the new OS, these features will be present in WP8

Features:

  • Nokia Maps will replace Bing Maps as the default mapping service for the WP8. Nokia Maps will also bring 3D turn by turn navigation as well as hardware acceleration to the maps
  • Deep integration of Skype into the OS: Skype will be seamlessly integrated with your contacts…not just messaging integration but VOIP as well. Phone calls using Skype will work just like a normal phone call on Windows Phone. For all the non-Skype users out there, Microsoft is allowing VOIP providers to integrate themselves into the OS in a similar fashion to Skype
  • Windows Phone Wallet will bring NFC capabilities to WP8
  • Significant upgrades to voice tools for developers and Ask Ziggy

These features are surely just the tip of the iceberg for what has been described as a “massive overhaul” to Windows Phone! Windows Phone Summit will be a highly anticipated event not just for Windows Phone fans and early adopters…but for the industry, Microsoft and Windows Phone skeptics everywhere.
